Mrs. Vilstrup's class is counting down the last 12 days before Christmas break with a "12 Days of Kindness" countdown. They kicked off the 12 days of kindness by reading The 12 Days of Kindness by Jenna Lettice. Each day, students will have a kindness focus which includes some of the following activities: smile at someone in the hallway, write your principal a sweet note, play with a new friend at recess, and complete school work with a good attitude. The students look forward to their kindness task each day!

Writing in ancient cuneiform, just like the scribes of Mesopotamia!

Our Kindness Campaign is in full swing @ GES & Nelson Primary. We are so proud of all the ways our students are filling buckets.
Oliver is helping clean up around the corn dryer.
Asher is helping with dishes and laundry
Joy did the dishes throughout the day over the weekend.
Hannah brought her Dad & brother breakfast.
Our kids would love to see how people in our community show kindness and fill buckets. Drop a picture in the comments!

First graders Annabelle, King, and Elijah took advantage of the snow melt runoff from the roof to create canals to move the water, just like ancient Mesopotamians we’ve been learning about!

GES & Nelson have started a Kindness Campaign. Students, staff, and families are all working together to be "Bucket Fillers" and focus on kindness in the last few weeks leading up to break. We encourage families to send pictures to highlight all the good they are doing! Below are pictures people have already shared.
Abby Carlson is doing dishes for her family so they can relax after dinner.
Ada & Beckham Bertelsen are putting out a snack bucket to show appreciation for hardworking delivery drivers!
Mrs. Polzine's class brought in food shelf donations.

Mrs. Melin's class celebrated the end of their Roman unit with chariot races.

Second graders finished their landform unit by creating and painting salt-dough landforms!

The Grantsburg School District would like to thank Jensen-Sundquist Insurance Agency for your generous donation of winter gear. This picture only shows a fraction of the coats that will help keep our students warm!
Thank you very much!

Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Stomberg kept kindergarten students engaged in a review exercise by adding a sensory element: writing their chaining words in shaving cream! 🏴☠️#GoGrantsburgPirates

Nelson Primary & Grantsburg Elementary Staff like to share in the Halloween fun!

Kindergartners at Nelson Primary tested their sense of taste in a fun and engaging activity as part of their current unit on their five senses! Students tasted sour, sweet, bitter, and salty foods, and kept a record of whether they enjoyed the taste.

2nd Grade has been studying the states of matter. Yesterday’s focus was the state of gas.
Today we did a spooky experiment to see what would happen when we mix water, vinegar, and baking soda in a Frankenstein ziploc baggie.
It wasn’t the explosion they anticipated, but we observed the gasses expand and max out the bag!

3rd Grade went to Crex Meadows on a field trip this October. Students could trek through the pond to explore and identify invertebrates, a connection to our Animal Classification unit. Students also were able to learn and apply their knowledge of survival skills in activities such as building shelters!

🥞📚 Second graders were inspired by their recent Paul Bunyan story to make “colossal pancakes” in celebration of their unit on fairy tales and tall tales!

First grade is learning about the human body. We made our own hand x-rays.

Here are some pics from 2nd grade's culminating tall tales/fairy tales unit. We made colossal pancakes like in our Paul Bunyan story.
