School Board Goals 2020-2023

  1. Maximize the potential of all students.  Individualize instruction so that every student reaches his or her full potential.

    1. Teach to all student learning styles.

      • Teachers provide artifact evidence of differentiation, individualization, and/or personalized instruction activities.

    2. Challenge top students to meet yearly projected MAP growth.

      • Measure results yearly during data retreats (top 10% of students in each grade).

    3. Prepare students to be successful in future endeavors (post-secondary training, Vo-Tech, college, military, and employment).

      • Survey GHS graduates 3 and 5 years out, gain feedback, and report findings.

    4. Create iForward credit recovery opportunities.

      • Provide self-paced courses and online adaptive courses as a learning options.

      • Use a diagnostic-driven model that allows students to test out of the material they previously mastered so they can focus on more difficult concepts.
         

  2. Promote and infuse core values, build assets, and develop character in our students.

  1. Increase classroom and school building activities on the core values:

    • Honesty/integrity /trustworthiness/fairness

      • Responsibility and accountability for ones actions

      • Respect for self & others

  2. Increase developmental assets in our students (SEARCH Institute 40 assets).

    1. School Buildings set one goal each school year to build student assets.

      • Students take the “Attitudes and Behavior Survey) every three years. Results are shared with staff, school board and community. 

         

  1. Retain/Reward teachers and coaches who have consistently proven excellence

    1. School Board will seek input from teachers, coaches and administrators to develop a plan and instruments.

    2. Advancement, recognition, and achievement activities and events will be documented and distributed yearly.

 

  1. Increase STEAM learning opportunities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) for middle school and high school students.

    1. Innovation remains tightly coupled with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – the STEM subjects. Art + Design are poised to transform our economy in the 21st century.

    2. STEAM programs add the arts to STEM curriculum by drawing on design principles, encouraging innovation and creative solutions.

      • Tour model schools with strong Tech Ed programs, partnerships, and FAB labs

      • Upgrade equipment in the Technical Education Department.

      • Identify STEAM curricula components at GMS and GHS.

      • Offer middle school students STEAM curriculum and access to equipment

 

  1. Expand Partnerships with community

  1. Involve and promote collaboration with local employers to ensure we are equipping students with marketable and lifelong learning skills for future employment.

    • Vibrant Volunteer Program and Building Bridges Program.

      • Partner with local business to determine workforce, training and equipment needs.

      • Implement the newly revised GHS Transition Plan

        1. Establish a Community Transition Advisory Board.

        2. Provide academic and career planning (ACP’s) to all pupils enrolled in grades 6 to 12 (process that helps students engage in academic and career development activities and a product that is created and maintained for the student’s academic, career, and personal advancement).
