Support for Homeless Students & Families

The Grantsburg School District offers resources and support to homeless students and families in an effort to help provide a consistent, high-quality education regardless of a student’s circumstances.

Homelessness creates significant educational barriers and is often viewed with a stigma and misconception that can exacerbate the struggles. By fostering community-wide awareness, we aim to challenge stereotypes and promote empathy within our greater community.

McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act

McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act

  • McKinney Vento is a federal law (a part of the No Child Left Behind legislation) that protects public school students identified as homeless from discrimination and seeks to eliminate barriers to a student’s education.

  • It is estimated that students who change school districts are set back 4-6 months academically. This law seeks to provide a stable and consistent education for these students.
