Art 1

  1. Recognize art as a basic way of thinking and communicating about the world

  2. Apply basic craft and technique to produce quality art that is both two and three-dimensional

  3. Use careful observation to draw, paint, and sculpt from life

Art 2

  1. Develop art that expresses ideas, ideas that may not be expressed by words alone

  2. Apply advanced design techniques to improve and/or change artwork

  3. Analyze and constructively critique others’ and his/her personal artwork

Graphic Design

  1. Explain what graphic design is, how it differs from other forms of visual art, and be familiarized with relating vocabulary of the field

  2. Use a variety of techniques involving advanced photography, computer software, and handcrafted art methods to communicate ideas to a broader audience

  3. Understand that art can be a powerful form of nonverbal communication and change; art can persuade the masses

Independent Art

  1. Understand that artistic expression is distinct, yet also recognize and identify with artists and art styles similar to their own

  2. Become a reflective student artist- one who analyzes one’s own work, is receptive to criticism, and uses developed techniques to improve and/or change it

  3. Strive for and develop a personal responsibility for one’s own learning and creative process

  4. Develop cultural open-mindedness, as well as knowledge and experience to interpret more complex meanings in works of art

  5. Create a personal portfolio of their art experiences and development, possibly considering and seeking out post-graduate opportunities in an art-related field
