Grantsburg High School Senior Checklist

Make decisions regarding what you want to do after high school

Not sure?
Explore the counselor’s office and library or on-line…there are many resources there to help you!
Check out the Xello website (use the following if you can’t remember your password)
Username: IF-XXXX (lunch #)
Password: your school PW or click "I forgot my password"

Check in with Mrs. Lade for other recourses

Make sure you have 40 hours of community service hours complete by the end of 3rd term
Service must be approved in advance
Turn your forms in to the office when they are completed and signed

Interested in the military? Have Ms. Retzer put you in touch with a recruiter
College bound: Register to take the ACT if you want to improve your score and register for SAT subject tests if you plan to apply to highly selective universities
Schedule campus visits-take advantage of early release days
Select 2-3 schools to apply to and begin application process

Most applications are online!
Ask Mrs. Lade to send your transcripts
The earlier you submit your application, the better your chances are of getting accepted…
Many colleges have priority deadlines that provide you with more opportunities-check the admissions website for deadlines

Complete FAFSA form if you want financial assistance. The FASFA opens October 1.
Contact your college’s financial aid office to research potential scholarships. Check my page on the High School Website for local scholarships-most are offered in the spring but there are a few fall/winter scholarships
Potential college athletes planning to play in college need to register with the N.C.A.A.
Submit your senior photo and baby picture to Jeanne by Thanksgiving-electronic files are preferred-stop in the office if you need her email 


Continue to do well academically, even if you have already been accepted to a school…they can change their minds (and will) if you slack off
Attend  Financial Aid Night: February 18th at 5:30 in the High School Auditorium, other locations are included in this mailing
In January you can begin to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) aka…STUDENT LOANS!

Tax information is needed for this form, so make sure your parents and you (if applicable) do taxes early

Want FREE money to further your education? Apply for scholarships!
Respond to all correspondence from your schools
Apply for housing (if necessary)
Notify Mrs. Lade of requests for current transcripts via her website
SPRING (March-May)
Complete FAFSA form if you want financial assistance
Apply for local scholarships!!! Mrs. Lade will hand this information out during a mandatory senior meeting (late February)

Send in any deposits needed for your college/school 
If attending a MN school, you will need to send in a reciprocity form to get a cheaper tuition rate:
If attending a Wisconsin school apply for a TIP grant and Wisconsin Covenant (by April 15) if you signed the pledge in Middle School
Finalize your decisions

Inform all schools you applied to of your choice

Maintain grades
Send a thank you note to scholarship donors, teachers, or others who have helped you
Request a final transcript to be sent to your college/school

Bring a stamped and addressed envelope to Mrs. Lade

Register for college summer orientation programs
